MSBCA PERFORMANCES
On August 8th, the MSBCA visited Wai Kwan Manor to perform Chinese opera and martial arts for the tenant.
FIRST BARBECUE OF THE YEAR
On July 15th, Wai Kwan hosted a barbecue event for its volunteers, board members, and staff.
VOLUNTEERING AT THE STAMPEDE BREAKFAST
On the morning of July 7th, a few tenants from the Wai Kwan Manor volunteered at the stampede breakfast held around the downtown BIA area.
Esther Ng Art Exhibition
An art exhibition of paintings painted by our residential artist Esther Ng was hosted on July 4th.
QUARTERLY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
On June 25th, a birthday celebration was organized for all of the tenants who's birthday falls within the third quarter of the year 2019.
KENT HEHR CANADA DAY CELEBRATION
On June 21st, Kent Hehr, Federal MP, came to Wai Kwan Manor with coffee and cake for an early celebration of Canada Day with the tenants.
Edmonton Trip
A two-day excursion to Edmonton was organized for June 14 & 15th. The trip consisted of attractions such as Edmonton's Premium Outlet Collection mall, University of Alberta's Botanic Garden, and the Legislative Assemble of Alberta. A quick visit to the Red Deer Farmer's market and a last-minute stop at the CrossIron Mills allowed the participants a chance pick up some goodies before returning to the Wai Kwan Manor.
Lethbridge Opera Society
The Lethbridge Opera Society visited Wai Kwan Manor on June 11th for their annual performance and lunch with the tenants.
Senior Competition at Calgary Chinese Citizens Elderly Association
On May 15th, the team from Wai Kwan Manor reigned victorious in the senior’s competition hosted by the CCEA.
Sending off the Summer Student
As the summer draws to a close, the Oi Kwan Foundation staff and some of it's Board Members took the Summer Student, Kimberly Shen, to a farewell lunch to wish her the best in her next semester at University.
Calgary Zoo Trip
The Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre, in conjunction with the Calgary Zoo, hosted a fundraising gala to honour the arrival of the Giant Pandas - Er Shun, Da Mao and their twin cubs, Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue to Calgary. These funds were used to purchase zoo tickets for seniors including the tenants at Wai Kwan. The Calgary Chinatown Lions Club sponsored transportation for our tenants to visit the zoo. After observing the pandas in their new habitat, they proceeded to Cross Iron Mills Mall for lunch at the food court and walked and shopped around the mall. They then visited a Chinese supermarket and had dinner at Eastern Treasures before returning to Wai Kwan.
LETHBRIDGE OPERA SOCIETY
The Lethbridge Opera Society visited Wai Kwan on June 11th. The tenants enjoyed a performance of classical Chinese opera, followed by a lunch organized by Polly Yip and other volunteers.
FIRE SAFETY TALK
On June 4th, Darrell Wiebe from the Calgary Fire Department gave the tenants a talk on fire safety. Included in his presentation was an overview of the City of Calgary Fire Safety Checklist, accessible here.
